When someone in Karachi searches for "best physiotherapist near me" or "SEO consultant Karachi" or "AC repair DHA", Google shows them local results. A map box with three businesses, then regular organic results below it. This is called local search.
Getting your business into that map box, or at minimum onto page one of the local organic results, is what local SEO is about. This guide covers how to do it step by step for a Karachi business.
Step 1: Set Up Your Google Business Profile Properly
This is the single most important thing you can do for local SEO. Without a Google Business Profile, your business will not appear in Google Maps at all.
Go to business.google.com and either claim your existing listing or create a new one. Then fill in every single field:
- Business name: Use your real business name. Do not add keywords to it (this violates Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension).
- Category: This is very important. Choose the most specific primary category that matches your business. Add secondary categories where relevant.
- Address: Use your exact physical address. If you are a service-area business (you go to clients rather than them coming to you), you can hide your address and set a service area instead.
- Phone: Use a local Pakistani number, ideally your WhatsApp number so customers can contact you directly.
- Website: Add your website URL.
- Hours: Set accurate hours including any special hours for public holidays.
- Description: Write a 250-word description that explains what you do, who you serve, and includes your main keyword naturally once or twice.
- Services: Add all your services with descriptions and prices where applicable.
- Photos: Add at least 10 photos. Cover photo, logo, interior shots, exterior shots, product or service photos, team photos.
Step 2: Get Your Business Verified
Google requires you to verify your business before it will show up prominently in search results. The most common verification method in Pakistan is a postcard sent to your business address, though video verification is also available for some accounts.
Once verified, your business will start appearing in Google Maps. How well it ranks depends on the optimization steps below.
Step 3: Build Local Citations
A citation is any mention of your business name, address, and phone number on the web. Google uses these to confirm that your business is real and where it is located.
For Karachi businesses, useful places to build citations include:
- Yello Pakistan (yello.com.pk)
- PakistanYello.com
- OLX Pakistan business listings
- Pakistan Business Directory
- Locally relevant industry directories
- Yelp (still indexed by Google internationally)
The most important thing with citations is consistency. Your business name, address, and phone number must be exactly the same across every listing. Even small differences (Street vs St, Karachi vs Karachi City) can confuse Google.
Step 4: Get More Google Reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking signals. More reviews, higher average rating, and recency of reviews all matter.
The best way to get reviews is to simply ask. After completing a job or serving a customer, send them a direct link to your Google Business Profile review page. You can get this link from your Google Business Profile dashboard under "Get more reviews".
A few rules about reviews:
- Never buy fake reviews. Google is very good at detecting these and will remove them or even suspend your profile.
- Do not ask for reviews in exchange for a discount or gift.
- Do respond to every review, positive and negative. A professional, polite response to a negative review shows other customers and Google that you care.
For a Karachi business with zero reviews, getting your first 10 genuine reviews can make a significant difference in local rankings within 4 to 6 weeks.
Step 5: Optimize Your Website for Local Keywords
Your website and your Google Business Profile work together. Google looks at both when deciding local rankings.
For local keyword optimization on your site:
- Include your city name in the title tag of your homepage (e.g., "Best Physiotherapist in Karachi | Name of Clinic")
- Create a dedicated page for your main service with the location included (e.g., a page called "Physiotherapy Services in Karachi")
- Add your full address and phone number in the footer of every page
- Embed a Google Maps iframe on your contact page
- Add LocalBusiness schema markup to your homepage
Step 6: Publish Regular Google Posts
Google Business Profile allows you to publish posts similar to social media posts. These appear on your profile in search results and Google Maps. Publishing one or two posts per week signals to Google that your business is active and engaged.
Post ideas for Karachi businesses:
- New services or products
- Special offers or discounts
- Before and after case studies
- Team updates or achievements
- Tips relevant to your industry
- Responses to frequently asked questions
How Long Will This Take
If you do all of the above consistently, most Karachi businesses start seeing improvement in Google Maps rankings within 2 to 3 months. Getting into the competitive 3-pack for popular searches like "restaurant Karachi" or "lawyer Karachi" takes longer, often 6 to 12 months of consistent effort.
For less competitive local searches, which is where most small Karachi businesses should start, 2 to 4 months is realistic.
